Marksmanship Instructors

Former and current National and Inter-Service champion instructors. All of our instructors have extensive competitive and military marksmanship instructor experience. We are available for everything from close quarters to long range sniper sustainment training. We can also provide training on the M17/M18 service pistol, military rifle, and crew served weapon qualification. We are capable of instructing marksmanship for any branch of service, federal, state or local agency. We can conduct Combat Excellence in Competition matches for both rifle and pistol. We offer crew served weapons instruction to our DoD customers as well.

Meet Our Instructors

  • Dwayne Lewis

    INSTRUCTOR U.S. Army (Retired)

    Dwayne served from 1985 until 2014. He served in the 82nd Airborne Divison, U.S. Army Sniper School, the Army Marksmanship Unit, the Small Arms Readiness Group and the Army Reserve Marksmanship Team. Dwayne trained over 3,000 Soldiers on marksmanship for their deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Dwayne is an avid competitive marksman. He spends the majority of his free time competing to win local, state and national level rifle competitions.

  • Norm Anderson

    INSTRUCTOR

    Norm served from 1992 until 2016. Norm joined the Army in September 1992. After graduating Basic Training and Infantry AIT, he was assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, (AMU) Ft. Benning. GA. He spent over 15 years assigned to AMU as a competitive shooter and instructor. MSG (Ret) Anderson joined the USAR in December 2007 and was assigned to the Small Arms Readiness Group. Norm served as Head Coach and firing team member of the Army Reserve Rifle Team until his retirement in December 2016. MSG (Ret) Anderson is an accomplished marksman with such accolades as four time CMP National Service Rifle Champion, two time President’s Rifle Trophy Match winner, two time National Trophy Individual Match winner, Inter-Service Rifle Champion, two time Inter-Service Long Range Champion and Wimbledon Cup winner. MSG (RET) Anderson was a member of the 2007 U.S. Palma Team and as a Line Coach for the 2011 and 2015 U.S. Palma Teams. He served as Team Captain for U.S. Palma team in 2019.

  • Joel Micholick

    INSTRUCTOR

    Joel served from 2000 until 2021. His positions included (SAW) gunner, M203 gunner, Sniper team leader, and Sniper squad leader. Joel participated in approximately 300 combat missions over five deployments, and helped paved the way for Sniper aerial platform shooting within Joint Special Operations Command by providing best practices feedback.

    Joel served at the Army Sniper School and the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit. He trained over 3000 Soldiers and civilians, developed marksmanship courses for use by the entire Army, won national level competitions, and assisted in two re-writes of the Field Manual (FM) 3-22.9, Rifle Marksmanship.

    Joel set two national records, shot on two winning national teams, and trained over 1000 Soldiers.

    His military education Squad Breacher Course, Joint Armor Small Arms Repair Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course, Career Counselor Course, Jumpmaster Course, Special Operations Target Interdiction Course, Ranger Course, Sniper Course, and Instructor training Course.

    Joel earned Airborne wings with bronze star for completing a combat jump into Afghanistan in 2001.

  • Dan Duitsman

    INSTRUCTOR

    U.S. Marine Corps (Retired)

    Dan served as an Infantryman and served on the Marine Corps Rifle Team for the last six years of his career. Dan was a Senior Firearms Instructor with the State Department. Dan brings Marine Corps marksmanship training knowledge and competitive experience to At Ease.

    He has been competing at NRA and CMP matches since 2000 and has won numerous National Rifle Individual and Team Championships to include setting several national records. He now uses his experience to instruct, mentor, and coach competitive shooting as well as law enforcement and Veteran Teams. Dan owns and operates DRD Precision Firearms and builds some of the best custom rifles on the range.

  • Julia Carlson

    INSTRUCTOR

    U.S. Marine Corps (Retired)

    She served as an Instructor/Competitor of the Marine Corps Shooting Team in Quantico, Virginia and she served as a Maintenance Chief for 8th Communication Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC until December 2001.

    After transferring to the Marine Corps Reserve, she served as both an Instructor/Competitor of the Marine Corps Reserve Shooting Team, and as the Peace Time/War Time Public Affairs Officer for C Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance, Riverton, UT.

    Julia was the first female to graduate the Small Arms Weapons Instructor School before being attached to 3rd Civil Affairs Group. During her deployment to Iraq in 2006 with 3rd CAG, she served as the Public Affairs Officer and worked with Iraqi civil governance, specifically aiding the economic development, education and communication for Iraqi women, by developing and implementing the Iraqi Women’s Engagement Program. She then served as Civil Affairs Team Chief and as the Officer in Charge of the Female Engagement Team under 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade while in Helmand, Afghanistan in 2009-10 before serving with the Marine Corps Civil-Military Operations School in Quantico, VA.

    Her marksmanship and Marine Corps highlights include: over 40 National individual and team titles/awards to include 4 history making championships by being the first woman to ever win since the induction of the competition in 1902. She was named the Female Athlete of the Year for the Marine Corps in 1998, meritoriously promoted to the ranks of Corporal and Staff Sergeant, and has previously held 3 National Service Rifle records. She earned her Distinguished Rifleman Badge in 1997 and her Distinguished Pistol Shot 2014 and is one of 4 known female Marines to become double distinguished.

    During her time as a member of the Marine Corps Shooting Teams (active and reserve), she has taught marksmanship skills to active duty and reservists around the country, youth, civilian groups, law enforcement, and other branches of the military as well.

  • Rob Mango

    INSTRUCTOR

    Rob Mango is a long time, national champion-level competition shooter, having shot with the USMC Rifle, USAMU Service Rifle, USAMU International Pistol, US Palma, USA Shooting (pistol), USAMU Service Pistol and all USAR Marksmanship Program teams. He was a Primary Marksmanship Instructor for the Military and has an extensive background in managing Live Fire ranges. Certifications in NEPA, Environmental, HAZMAT, EMT/Paramedic, RMTK, Inter-Service Range Safety Officer, Weapon Danger Zone, and Advanced Instructor training. Mango’s Accolades include several competitive shooting trophies including Overall Inter-Service Rifle Champion, National Trophy Individual Champion (Rifle 2015-16, Pistol 2013), President Hundred Champion (pistol 2015), and member of several World and National Record setting teams. He is a Tailwheel pilot, Sailboat captain, and motorcycle enthusiast. He currently resides in northeast Florida.
